• Brookings resident uses web-based sales of vintage items to launch downtown clothing store

BROOKINGS – Downtown shopping districts often worry that web-based sellers are capturing their would-be clients.

But in the case of a new women’s clothing store, selling her merchandise online paved the way for the young owner to open a physical store in downtown Brookings.

Kali Goetz, 24, is an Aberdeen native who earned her bachelor’s degree in consumer affairs from South Dakota State University in 2011. She said the degree is like a business degree, but broader.

“I originally wanted to do apparel merchandizing, but I decided to get more of the business side and do a consumer affairs degree,” she said, acknowledging that opening her own clothing store was always in mind.
