• Policy has not been uniform throughout district
BROOKINGS – No matter the reason, each missed day of school will count toward a maximum of 10 per semester for Brookings students. After that, high school students will lose class credit, and all students who are truant will be reported to the police department and deputy state’s attorney.
That’s the new districtwide attendance policy, explained to the Brookings School Board Monday by Brookings High School Assistant Principal Shelly Jensen.
The new policy does not change the number of days students are allowed to miss school, Jensen said, but it simplifies things for families and the schools’ administrative assistants. So far, parents have needed to call ahead with a reason for the absence, and assistants have had to decode and categorize those reasons.For the complete article see the 05-17-2013 issue.
