On Thursday, Brookings firefighters work to extinguish a fire on the roof of the Brookings Biospace Building at 1006 32nd Ave. The fire started about 11:20 a.m. when a rooftop powered-ventilator above South Dakota Ag Labs malfunctioned. The resulting fire sent flames through the roof.
Attacking the fire proved difficult because of the scissor-truss construction of the roof. The firefighters' saws bound up on the heavy metal of the roof, and panels had to be removed with screw guns to allow access.For the complete article see the 05-10-2013 issue.
