BROOKINGS – Say “tourism” in South Dakota and the first thing that comes to mind is the Black Hills: Rushmore, the mining towns, the buffalo herd at Custer State Park.
As a travel and tourist destination, Brookings may not rank at the top of anyone’s list, but did you know it’s an industry worth tens of millions of dollars to the Brookings County economy?
“Travel does matter to us,” says Jennifer Johnson, executive director of the Brookings Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB)
Actually, says Johnson, the economic impact of tourism in Brookings County the past year amounted to a staggering $103 million.
