• Commissioners will talk with sheriff about need, landowner about options
BROOKINGS – Two properties are for sale across from the sheriff’s office, and Brookings County commissioners decided Tuesday they will find out whether they need them and what their options are for buying them.
Commissioner Don Larson began the conversation, saying an agent of the property owner approached him to ask if the county would like to buy them. The properties sit immediately across the street from the Brookings County Sheriff’s office, which is at 315 Seventh Ave., and are adjacent on the north of property the county already owns.
“When properties that adjoin you are available, it’s probably good business to acquire those properties or make some kind of move to have future control and ownership of those properties, for the sake of the future of your business,” Larson said.
