BROOKINGS – When kids in the Great After School Program at Camelot Intermediate and Hillcrest Elementary schools learned about good character Tuesday, they heard it from two people they likely look up to: Brookings High athletes Emily Johnson and Kaleb Vig.

The presentation is called “4-H Hometown Heroes of Character,” and more than 10,000 South Dakota students will hear it this year. Vig and Johnson are among 96 Hometown Heroes from 46 schools in the state who have delivered their message to younger students. The BHS students were selected for the program earlier this year by their high school to be examples for local students of what it means to be a person of character.
