BROOKINGS – Interim Brookings County Highway Superintendent Dick Birk has been given the job permanently, and the county will now interview to fill his former position of lead foreman.
After the Brookings County Commission decided in March to drop its requirement that the Highway Department head be a certified engineer, the county advertised for superintendent candidates. It interviewed the top three applicants and decided Birk should have the job.
