Derald Bauman, 80, died on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Brookview Manor in Brookings.
Memorial services are at 1 p.m. Friday at First Lutheran Church in Brookings. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursdayat Rude’s Funeral Home in Brookings.
Derald Bauman was born on Sept. 18, 1932, in Brookings, the son of Fred and Jennett (Hillerud) Bauman. He received his education in the Brookings schools.
He served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 to 1954 during the Korean War.
Derald married Lila Borstad on Nov. 6, 1954 in Pipestone, Minn. They lived in Brookings until 1957 when they moved to Fresno, Calif., where he worked for the Santa Fe Railroad. After moving back to Brookings he was employed in construction until 1959.
Then he was employed by the city of Brookings in the Utilities Department where he worked for 35 years, retiring in 1994.
He was a member of the First Lutheran Church of Brookings where he served as an usher, communion assistant and camera operator.
He was a member of the American Legion and a life member of the VFW. He especially enjoyed woodworking and remodeling.
He is survived by his wife, Lila of Brookings; three daughters, Sheryl Bauman of Brookings, Kathryn (Marlan) Redlin of Watertown and Julie (Jeff) Wollschlager of Madison, Minn.; a son, Chris (Myrna) Bauman of Sioux Falls; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two step grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; one brother, Fred (Jennine) Bauman of Madison, and two sisters, Dorothy Rice of Brookings and Joyce Cleveland of Madison.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to First Lutheran Church in Brookings.
