Adam Duane Ellis, 23, formerly of McCook Lake, died unexpectedly from natural causes on Friday, March 29, 2013, at Brookings hospital.
Funeral services were at 11 a.m. today at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Sioux City with the Rev. Robert J. Schimmer officiating. Burial was in Logan Park Cemetery. Visitation was Monday with a vigil service at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel.
Adam was born June 26, 1989, in Sioux City the son of Larry and Roxanne (Thoeny) Ellis. He attended Sacred Heart School and graduated from Dakota Valley High School where he lettered in football all four years. Adam received his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering technology from South Dakota State University in Brookings. As a college student he worked for Daktronics for three years. He was offered a fulltime position at Daktronics following graduation and has worked there until present.
While at SDSU Adam was a member of Delta Chi Fraternity and recently joined the Alumni Board of Trustees for Delta Chi and their Housing Corp. He was also a member of Epsilon Mu Eta Engineering Management Honor Society.
Adam enjoyed playing guitar and video games. He loved anything that involved electronics. He was a sports enthusiast and was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. He had a warm smile and loving personality. Survivors include his parents, Larry and Roxanne Ellis of McCook Lake; his sister, Lindsey Ellis of McCook Lake; maternal grandmother, Anita Thoeny of Sun Prairie, Wis.; the love of his life, Kate Van Heel of Brookings; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Harold and Bonnie Ellis and maternal grandfather, Roger Thoeny.
Memorials may be made in his name to Delta Chi Fraternity in care of the family.
