• Injuries not considered 'life threatening'
A three-car crash at 6:06 p.m. Wednesday in the 1000 block of Sixth Street led to a Brookings woman being cited for following too closely and four people going to the emergency room for treatment of injuries.
A Suzuki Forenza driven by Charmaine Houck, 33, of Brookings was heading west in the inside lane and stopped for a red light at the intersection. Behind her was a GMC pickup driven by Daniel Lesnar, 22, of Brookings, with Sarah Schiley, 20, of Brookings as a passenger; he also stopped at the traffic signal. The third vehicle, following Lesnar's pickup, was a 1994 Pontiac Grand Am driven by Sara Searl, 32, of Brookings; she had a passenger, John Buck, 30, also of Brookings.
In what became a minor chain reaction, Searl rear-ended Lesnar's pickup, which in turn was pushed into Houck's Suzuki.
