BROOKINGS – Courtney Anderson, 16, of Brookings, is right on target in the world of competitive archery – literally.

In early February, the Brookings High School sophomore finished third in a field of 24 archers in the Recurve, Young Adult Female division at the annual World Archery Festival, sponsored by the National Field Archery Association (NFAA) and held in Las Vegas. The contestants in her division ranged in age from 15 through 18.

Each contestant shot 30 arrows on Friday (Feb. 8) and 30 on Saturday (Feb. 9) at bullseye targets 20 yards away. Each bullseye was worth 10 points, with lesser points being awarded for arrows more distant from the bullseye.
