Geraldine Maud (Crabtree) (Arndt) Kirby, 81, died Saturday, March 2, 2013.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses West 4900 49th Street in Sioux Falls.
Geraldine was born on Nov. 19, 1921, in Browntown, Wis. She was the firstborn of four children to John and Gladys Crabtree. She was raised on farms near Elrod and Pepper Slough south of Bradley. Gerry graduated from Garden City High School in 1939. She married Glen Arndt in 1939. In 1960 she married Merritt Kirby and they have celebrated 53 years of marriage. Gerry raised four children: Bob Arndt, Nancy Arndt of Sioux Falls, Richard Arndt of Duluth, Minn., and Dave Kirby of Santa Fe, N.M.
Gerry was baptized as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on Oct. 19, 1962.
Gerry has lived and worked in various areas in the South Dakota region. She worked at the lunch counter in Woolworths in Watertown, ran the school lunch program at two elementary schools and a high school, and was a telephone operator at the end of her working career at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls. After retirement she lived in Brookings and later returned to Sioux Falls.
In recent years she has enjoyed her winters in Apache Junction, Ariz.
Survivors include her husband, Merritt, children; Nancy Arndt of Sioux Falls, Richard (Marialice) Arndt of Duluth, Minn., and Dave (Tammy) Kirby of Santa Fe, N.M.; sister Marion (Harlan) Lien of Sioux Falls and sister-in-law Carol Todd of Pierre; 11 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren;many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Grace (John) Dyce; brother, Eugene (Dorothy) Crabtree and son Bob (Sam) Arndt.
