Gift would retire their debt, decrease future costs, organizers say

BROOKINGS A big gift would be supporting a big resource for all Brookings County residents, designers of the South Dakota Outdoor Adventure Center (OAC) told the Brookings County Commission Tuesday morning as they asked for $500,000 over two years.

Commissioners asked some questions about the OAC and what the county might get for its money, then pledged to discuss the request during a March 5 work session.

Randy Hanson, vice president of the building committee, explained that the OAC was begun to create a permanent home for 4-H shooting sports. Planners have since expanded their vision to include all ages and a variety of indoor and outdoor education, skill-building classes and outdoor experiences. The facility is now under construction.
