• City leaders look at infrastructure plans, consider sewer installation
BROOKINGS – The Brookings City Council on Tuesday will start the clock on one of the community’s most important projects, the development of Main Avenue South infrastructure.
Road improvements as well as water and sewer lines from 20th Street southward are critical to the residential and commercial development of the area, which includes the planned Prairie Hills and Christie Springs communities as well as a new fire station and a new elementary school already on the drawing board.
Council is expected to jumpstart the 20th Street South growth with the approval of a district transportation and utility development plan.
The first step in the plan is the construction of a sanitary sewer from 20th approximately 7,500 feet southward to 40th Street South.
