Leslie L. “Les” Johnson, 83, died Saturday, Feb. 16, 2013, at his step-daughter’s home in Las Vegas under hospice care.
Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Leslie L. Johnson was born Jan. 2, 1930, at Buffalo, Mo., to Joseph and Minnie (Rose) Johnson. He was raised and educated at Osceola, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War.
Les was a core setter in the foundry at John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa, from 1955 until his retirement in 1992. He married Coleen Ellsworth in 1988 at Waterloo, Iowa.
He was a member of AmVets in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
They later moved to Sioux Falls and then moved to Las Vegas where family assisted in caring for him at home.
Survivors include his wife Coleen of Sioux Falls; three sons, Wayne (Joyce) of Evansdale, Iowa, Brian and Michael (Tami) of both of Waterloo, Iowa; a daughter, Joni (Jay) Decker of Jefferson, Texas; three step-daughters, Leslie Sue O’Brien of Las Vegas, LaRae Burkman of Brandon and Linda (Al) Weisser of Sioux Falls; 10 grandchildren; 12 great- grandchildren; a brother, Arthur (Vicki) of Osceola, Iowa, and two sisters, Doris Oakley and Norma Warner, both of Des Moines, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Roy, and two sisters, Lucy Johnson and Vera McDougal.
