Donald Leroy Risty, 82, of rural Sinai, died Wednesday Feb. 13, 2013, at the United Retirement Center in Brookings.
Funeral services were at 10:30 a.m. today at the Sinai Lutheran Church with the Rev. Chuck Meyer officiating. Burial is in the West Sinai Cemetery at Sinai. Visitation was Sunday at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington.
Donald L. Risty was born on Oct. 17, 1930, to Tollef and Myrtle (Skattum) Risty on the family farm west of Sinai. Donald attended the Sinai Rural School No. 21.
He was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was stationed at Niagara Falls, N.Y., as a radar technician. Don returned to South Dakota to farm in the Sinai area. He did custom farming and trucking for area farmers. He was a member of the Quarter Horse Association and spent much of his free time attending horse shows and sales
Don is survived by two brothers, Melvin Risty of Sinai and Wayne (Carol) Risty of Brookings, along with a number of nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mildred Risty and Gladys Risty Wills.
