Gordon Brodersen, 83, died Friday, Feb. 15, 2013, at his home in Elkton.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Brookings United Church of Christ. Visitation is from 4-7 p.m. Monday at Skroch Funeral Chapel in Elkton.
Gordon was born Jan. 11, 1930, in Flandreau to Jens and Johanna Brodersen. He attended country school in Flandreau and Verdi, Minn., and then finished his schooling in Elkton. Gordon lived and worked on the family dairy farm from 1942 to present day. He married Joyce Edlin on Oct. 7, 1966, in Pipestone, Minn.
Gordon served as treasurer for Alton Township and also served on the Elkton Cemetery Board. Gordon was a former member of the Elkton Peace United Church of Christ, where he served as the treasurer of the church board, and was currently a member of Brookings United Church of Christ. In 1997 Gordon retired from farming. After retirement he worked for SDSU, and then the Brookings Park and Recreation Department until 2011. He loved spending time with his family and grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Brodersen, seven children, Don (Sherry) Bauman of Elkton, Deb (Bruce) Burckhardt of Brookings, Jerry (Leslie) Bauman of Hardwick, Minn., Janet (Bryan) Brockberg of Pipestone, Minn., JoAnn (Jeff) Lee of Brookings, Jean (Steve) Chappell of Aurora and Jeanette (Jon) Dodson of Hudson, Ohio; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Luddeke of Colorado Springs, Colo., and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a grandson, Davis Lee.
