• School board identifies themes from teacher listening sessions

BROOKINGS – All five listening sessions with school staff are complete, and the Brookings School Board met Tuesday in a work session to review what it has learned.

During the month of January, school board members met with the staff of Brookings’ five schools: Camelot Intermediate, Mickelson Middle, Medary Elementary, Brookings High and Hillcrest Elementary. School board president Larry Rogers attended every session, while vice president Marysz Rames attended three and other board members attended as fit their schedules.

Rogers said Friday that some concerns common among the schools are rising class sizes, lack of classroom space, safety, and the need for staff to work with technology, English Language Learners (ELL) and students with behavioral problems. Many other concerns were also expressed.
