Marcella S. Alverson, 93, died Sunday, Feb. 3, 2013, at the Golding Living Center in Madison.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madison with the Rev. Constanze Hagmaier officiating. Burial is in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation begins at noon Thursday with the family present at 7 p.m. at Ellsworth Funeral Home in Madison. Visitation continues one hour prior to the service at the church.
Marcella Sylvia Hyland was born March 5, 1919, in Madison to Ed and Idella (Hexom) Hyland. Marcella attended country school in Hyland school district until eighth grade. She graduated from Madison High School in 1937. Marcella enrolled in General Beadle State Teachers College and graduated in 1939. She taught school in Hyland School District for three years.
Marcella married John M. Meyer on Dec. 12, 1942, at Napolean, Ohio. He died May 26, 1963. She then married Bernard M. Alverson Aug. 6, 1966, at Trinity Lutheran church in Madison. He died Oct. 16, 1990. She was a bookkeeper for veterinarians Dr. Nold and Dr. Harris for 11 years. She then was a bookkeeper for F & M Co-op Oil for 10 years. Marcella lived her entire life in Lake County and was an active member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, WELCA, circles, and quilting.
She belonged to the Jolly Eight Card Club, 8 & 40 Salon No. 15 of Madison, American Legion Auxiliary of Wentworth and Madison VFW.
Survivors include three children, Gloria (Floyd) Ebdrup of Wentworth, Lois (Eugene) Panning of Hamburg, Minn., and David (Mindee) Meyer of Madison, five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and a sister, Darlene Jacobson of Norwood, Minn.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, and a son, Edwin Meyer.
