Tree possibilities

BROOKINGS – Three weeks ago now, late on a Friday afternoon, Suzanne Hegg got a call at the Children’s Museum of South Dakota. It was someone at Scheels, the Sioux Falls sporting goods store, asking if she could use a 65-foot-tall Oak tree.

That’s quite a question at quarter-to-5 on a Friday.

“Scheels had a huge tree that was sort of the centerpiece of their store,” said Hegg, the museum’s executive director. “They are changing their marketing plan, so the tree is going away. But, they didn’t really want it to go to the dump, and it was scheduled to go to the dump if they couldn’t find somebody who could accept it.”
