• But, all Brookings County schools have an emergency plan
BROOKINGS – After another school shooting this past December, some Brookings County schools were hoping to get money from the federal Homeland Security program to fund better security for their buildings. But Sheriff Marty Stanwick told the county commission Tuesday that the money isn’t there for schools.
Stanwick said he met recently with one of the county’s school superintendents to discuss school safety.
“Of course, they’re looking for some Homeland Security money to help them with beefing up their security doors and things like that, and, of course right now, there’s not anything available; it’s allocated to go in other directions,” Stanwick said.
