BROOKINGS – Following a playoff run during the 2012 season, the South Dakota State football team took its next big step forward on Wednesday, inking 17 student-athletes on the first day of the 2013 national signing period.
“It’s great,” said head coach John Stiegelmeier, who is 102-76 in 16 years at the helm of the Jackrabbits. “It’s great to be done, No. 1 – that’s the biggest deal. And No. 2, it’s just a great group of young men. And I mean that – great student-athletes, great young men.
“It’s a treat to have them be part of our football family.”
Ten different states are represented in this year’s class, as Minnesota led the way with four signees.
