BROOKINGS – An 11-year-old child was struck by a pickup as she crossed a city street Tuesday afternoon.
The driver, who left the scene of the accident, was located a short time later by city police.
Police Lt. Derrick Powers said the girl, a Brookings resident, was taken by ambulance to the Brookings hospital. The extent of her injuries is unknown, but it is believed they are not life-threatening. Witnesses to the accident initially said it appeared the girl had a foot injury.
The mishap occurred shortly after 3:30 p.m. at the intersection of Medary Avenue South and 15th Street South.
