MITCHELL – The Bobcats played even with the third-ranked Kernels for the first eight minutes, but Mitchell used a 29-9 advantage through the middle quarters to post a 49-34 Eastern South Dakota Conference girls’ basketball win on Tuesday at the Corn Palace.
The score was tied at 10-all after one before the Kernels outscored Brookings, 16-4 in the second, and then 13-5 in the third, to take a 39-19 lead into the final frame where the ‘Cats made up five points for the final margin.
“We played a good game,” said Brookings head coach Lynn Frederick. “Defensively, we did a lot to slow them down but when we turned the ball over, they made us pay – they probably scored 22-24 points off our 14 turnovers. (Mitchell) made some great plays and we didn’t shoot very well – we just didn’t finish very well."
