There’s a new deputy in town

BROOKINGS – Before the job ever came open, Abigail Howard knew she wanted to work in the state’s attorney’s office.

Several years ago, before she went to law school, she was a temporary assistant there while one employee was on maternity leave. She returned as an intern after her first year of law school.

“That’s how I got acquainted with criminal law and prosecution and the state’s attorney’s office,” she said.

“I really just fell in love with this type of practice and learned so much from Clyde (Calhoon, state’s attorney) and Mark (Kratochvil, deputy state’s attorney) and the whole office, and really just developed a passion for criminal prosecution."
