Shirley Johnson, 79, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls.
Funeral services are at 2 p.m. Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel, Flandreau. Burial is in Union Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 – 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral chapel.
She was born Nov. 14, 1933, at Flandreau to Leonard and Nora (Earl) Thompson. She was raised by her aunt and uncle, Lillian and Jack Headrick, after her mother died when she was 3.
She graduated from Flandreau High School in 1951 and worked at the Crystal Theatre while she was in high school. Shirley was married Dec. 24, 1951, in Pipestone, Minn., to Homer Johnson.
She worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone Company, ICAPP, Dakota Industries, was a dietary aide at Riverview Manor and then worked at Odd Fellows Nursing Home in Dell Rapids until her retirement in 1995. Shirley loved her family and animals.
She is survived by her husband Homer; four children, Jerome of Howard, David (Melodee) of Sioux Falls, Janet (John) Sternhagen of Sioux Falls and Raymond of Egan; three grandchildren; three great-grandchildren and a sister, Barbara Hovaldt.
Shirley was preceded in death by four sisters.
