Phyllis R. Christenson, 89, died Sunday, Jan. 27, 2013, at Edgewood Vista in Flandreau.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, at Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church. Burial is in the church cemetery. Visitation is from 4 – 7 p.m. Wednesday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 7 p.m. scripture service.
She was born April 29, 1923, in Clare Township near Flandreau to John F. and Margaret (McMahon) Powers. She received her education in Chamberlin Country School and graduated from Flandreau High School in 1941.
She graduated from Nettleton Business College in Sioux Falls and worked for the ASC office in Flandreau. Phyllis married Eugene Christenson on Feb. 21, 1944, in Flandreau. They farmed northwest of Flandreau from 1944 until 1986 when they moved to town. Phyllis was a member of Ss. Simon and Jude Catholic Church, Catholic Daughters, Altar Society, Catholic Quilting Ladies and Clare Extension Club.
She enjoyed her family, flowers, quilting, arts and crafts and baking brownies and pineapple cookies. She is survived by her husband Eugene; four children of Shannon (Janet), Amiret, Minn., Alan (Ronda) of Owatonna, Minn., Jane (Gary) Christiansen of Winona, Minn., and Brian (Laurie) of Flandreau, 14 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, and four sisters-in-law, Mary Powers, Marilyn Powers, Elaine Powers and Colette Powers.
She was preceded in death by an infant daughter Cheryl, great-granddaughter Brooklyn, four brothers, John “Pete”, Boyd, Francis “Sanny”, Mark and two sisters, Camillus and Margery.
