Building permit values jumping

• Construction’s getting healthier in Brookings after several years of slowdown

BROOKINGS – If there’s a building boom in Brookings, it’s affecting only two areas: apartment buildings and nursing homes.

Those were the sectors that showed the most activity in Brookings over the past 12 months. Right now, city leaders are “cautiously optimistic” about construction in Brookings. The good news is that in 2012, the total value of building permits exceeded $47.7 million, and that’s more than 25 percent higher than the year before.
