Lillian E. Peterson, 99, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at the Hendricks Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held at will be at 11 a.m. today at the Hendricks Hospital Chapel with the Rev. Nancy Hanson officiating. Inurnment will be in Mt. Olive Columbarium in Lake Havasu, Ariz.
Birk Funeral Home of Hendricks is entrusted with the arrangements.
Lillian Emilia Peterson was born on Aug.13, 1913, in Toronto to parents Gustave Harold and Emma Pauline Anderson. She was one of eight children.
Lillian married Randolph Earnest Peterson on Jan. 15, 1939, in Portsmouth, Va. After moving to Huron, she worked for Osborne Clothing Store in Huron and for 11 years she worked for the State of South Dakota at the State Capitol in Pierre. While working at the capitol she met dignitaries such as Fritz Mondale, John Kennedy, Bobby Kennedy, Joe Foss and Hubert Humphrey, to name a few. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, quilting and reading. She was also fond of golfing and puzzles.
Lillian also enjoyed helping and visiting with people. She will be remembered by her family as being generous, kind, thoughtful and feisty.
She was a member of Christ Lutheran Church.
She is survived by her three children, Barbara (Robert) Olson-Trandem of Hendricks, Richard Peterson of Eden Prairie, Minn., and Linda Goslee of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren; one brother, Gordon (Erliss) Anderson of Astoria; two sisters, Signe Strong of Hendricks and Adeline Koester of Hammond, Ind., plus numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Randolph Peterson; two sisters and brother-in-law, Gladys Lenz and Esther (Wayne) Fites; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Walter (Lena) Anderson, Verner (Esther) Anderson and two brothers-in-law, Claude Strong and Harry Koester.
