Carmi J. Odegaard, 87, formerly of Brookings, died in Rapid City on Friday, Jan. 18, 2013.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Thursday at South Canyon Lutheran Church in Rapid City. Burial, with military honors, is at Black Hills National Cemetery.
Visitation is from 5 until 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Osheim & Schmidt Funeral Home in Rapid City.
Carmi was born in Volga to Joseph A. and Selma O’Nora (Stordahl) Odegaard and graduated from high school there in 1943. He served in the Army Air Force during World War II and graduated from Augustana College in 1950. He worked in the insurance and real estate business and retired as the chief appraiser for the South Dakota Department of Transporation.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Odegaard of Rapid City; three sons, Steve (Mary) Odegaard of Hiawatha, Iowa and Les (Ferne) and Joe (Juli) Odegaard, all of Rapid City; a daughter, LeeAnne (Dave) England of Rapid City; 11 grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four step-grandchildren.
Memorials have been established to South Canyon Lutheran Church and the Sons of Norway Borgund Lodge.
