Clair I. Nitteberg, 95, died on Monday, Jan. 14, 2013, at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center.
Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Estelline. Burial is in the East Norden Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline.
Clair I. Nitteberg was born June 10, 1917, in Hamlin County, the son of Charles and Ida (Tofley) Nitteberg. He received his education in rural school in Hamlin County and then attended Estelline High School. Clair married Merlyne Anderson on Dec. 19, 1942, in Watertown. After their marriage they owned and operated Stone Bridge Resort and the Lake Poinsett Casino until retiring in 1979.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Estelline. He was also a member of the Lake Poinsett Area Development Association, the National Rifle Association, and an honorary member of the Hamlin County Sportsman Club. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived his wife Merlyne of Castlewood; a son Gale (Sandi) of Castlewood; a daughter Connie Stehly of Castlewood; two grandchildren; three step-grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his a brother John, and two sisters, Erma and Olive.
