BROOKINGS – The city’s new pillow tax could mean big things for Brookings, and for its hotels.
Imposed and collected for the first time in May 2012, it’s already starting to pay off.
Besides the taxes on goods and services Brookings collects, every visitor to a city hotel now pays another local tax: a $2 per night “pillow tax.”
For the citizens of Brookings, it’s another kitty the community can tap to promote itself.
