BROOKINGS – A Brandon man who kicked and severely injured a small dog in Brookings on Oct. 27 has pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of killing or injuring the animal of another.
Twenty-two-year-old Shane Hauge was ordered on Tuesday to serve two weeks in jail and pay a $500 fine.
State’s Attorney Clyde Calhoon said Hauge has already reimbursed the dog’s owner for nearly $600 in veterinarian bills incurred after the incident. The defendant has also written a letter of apology to the owner.
