BROOKINGS – Man-made tragedies, either through deliberate action or negligent human error, drive determination: don't let it happen again.

Not surprisingly, that sort of determination has happened in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., tragedy, where a lone gunman shot and killed 20 school children and six adults.

When guns are involved in a tragedy, such as in Aurora, Colo., or Newtown, firearm sales across the nation go up – and the Brookings area is no exception.
