•County had too much ‘unreserved, undesignated’ money this year
BROOKINGS – During their last meeting of the year on Dec. 31, Brookings County commissioners had to agree how they would spend some of the extra money in their general fund.
The state says counties may keep an amount equal to no more than 40 percent of their general fund appropriations for the next year as “unreserved, undesignated” money in the general fund. As 2013 approached, Brookings County had 41.4 percent.
