BROOKINGS Ė The city will pay nearly $670,000 for infrastructure upgrades this summer when the state begins its overhaul of U.S. Highway 14 on the western edge of Brookings.

Thatís about $150,000 more than city staff anticipated when the highway renovation plans were detailed, but itís still a fair price, City Engineer Jackie Lanning told the council last week.

The councilors voted to lock in $668,417 as the amount the city will reimburse the state Department of Transportation (DOT) when the work is completed.

The reconstruction area will run from near the Brookings County Veterans Memorial, just west of Western Avenue, to Main Avenue in downtown Brookings.
