Gordan L. Sharp, 79, husband of Iva Francis Cooper Sharp, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at Central Baptist Hospital in Kentucky.
Funeral services were held Wednesday at Embrace Epworth United Methodist Church with the Rev Rosario Picardo officiating. Burial was in Lexington Cemetery.
Born in Brookings, he was the son of Walter, Sr. and Hannah Fish Sharp. Gordon was a member of Embrace Epworth United Methodist Church and served as church treasurer.
He was a linotype operator for Lexington Herald-Leader, having been employed there for 44 years. He also served as Steward with International Typographical Union Local 189. He was a coach for 19 years at Dixie T-Ball League and several years at Dixie Jr. Pro Basketball League.
Gordon served in the U.S. Army.
He is survived by his wife; two sons, Jeffrey Sharp of Lexington and Brian Patrick Sharp and his partner, John Downs of Frankfort, Ky.; a daughter, Teresa (Tom) Sharp Seeley of Lexington; a brother, Walter (Dorothy) Sharp of Omaha, Neb., and a sister, Doris Jean (Darrell) Pahl of Aurora; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to Embrace Epworth United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1015 N. Limestone, Lexington, Ky., 40505.
