Clearing roadways, sidewalks and parking lots was job No. 1 this morning, as Brookings and the surrounding area began digging out from under the snow that had been falling on-and-off since Friday and through Sunday morning.
South Dakota State Climatologist Dennis Todey was still crunching the numbers this morning; his unofficial estimate at that time was about 10 inches over the Brookings area, with the bulk coming down from about 4 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Sunday. Following that, heavy winds moved the snow about, bringing on near-whiteout conditions at times.
