DE SMET – Amanda Poppen had 18 points and 13 rebounds and De Smet had a big second half while opening the girls’ basketball season with a 61-40 victory over Sioux Valley on Tuesday night.
Poppen went 6-of-9 from the field and 6-of-7 at the free-throw line. Grayson Gruenhagen added 16 points and five assists.
The Lady Bulldogs, who led 28-24 at halftime, held a 36-22 edge on the glass. They shot 47.1 percent (24-of-51) from the field while limiting the Cossacks to 31 percent (13-of-42).
