• Two-year study would test program meant to increase student achievement, engagement

BROOKINGS – A new approach to teaching and learning in South Dakota, presented during Tuesday’s school board meeting, would use Brookings and three other school districts to pilot the model that its creators believe will better engage students in learning and help them achieve more.

Called “Teaching and Learning Across the Community,” Rep. Scott Munsterman of Brookings plans to propose the study and a corresponding comprehensive approach to teaching and learning to the state Legislature. The model is now being vetted, Munsterman said Wednesday.

“I’m hoping within the next month or so, it will be pretty solid that we can expose it and talk to more people about it,” he said.
