Richard Daly, 83, died Sept. 15, 2012 after a short illness. A celebration of life is from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday at Meadows Clubhouse in Lompoc, Calif. He was born Nov. 19, 1928, to George and Rose Daly near Oto, Iowa. He served in Germany after joining the Iowa National Guard. He later moved to Brookings, where he was an electronics technician with the Brookings Music Store. In Brookings he met and married his wife, Jane, a 1954 Brookings High School graduate. They were married Sept. 14, 1958.
They moved to Lompoc in 1962, where he was employed with Lockheed. He later joined ITT-Federal Electric, retiring after 33 years.
Richard wa a motor sports fan and was a photojournalist with several national motor sports publications as well as the Lompoc Record.
He was a staff photographer at Santa Maria Speedway for many years as well as a stock car racer for many years. He also enjoyed driving and restoring his classic cars. A life member of the local VFW, he was a 55-year member of the American Legion Post 74 and a longtime member of the Lompoc Antique Car Club.
He is survived by his wife Jane; two sons, Kerry of North Dakota and Steven (Denise) of Lompoc; a daughter, Paula of Lompoc; a granddaughter; two granddaughters ; a sister, Vivien Langston of Minnesota; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, George, Steward, Don and Jeff and a sister, Dorothy Whitaker.
