Clarence L. Hansen, 96, of Brookings died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at the United Living Community, Brookings. Funeral services are at 11 a.m. Saturday at Rude's Funeral Home in Brookings. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, beginning at 10 a.m. at Rude's Funeral Home in Brookings.
Clarence L. Hansen was born on April 14, 1916, in Brookings County, the son of William and Sadie (Davis) Hansen.
Clarence received his education in Bushnell. In 1935, he moved to Grants Pass, Ore., where he worked various jobs for a short time. He then moved back to South Dakota and was employed for Kellogg Implement and various other places as a mechanic.
Clarence married Lenore Merritt on May 8, 1938 in Egan. Clarence then started custom farming in the early 1940s. Lenore died on April 1, 1980, in Bushnell. He then married Joyce Eachen on Nov. 7, 1981, in Brookings. Clarence continued farming until his retirement in 1997.
He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, weekly dining out and spending time with his family and friends.
He is survived by his a son, James L. Hansen of Lincoln Center, Maine; step-son , Terry Eachen (Norma) of Castlewood; sonin-law , Elmer Rauscher of Pierre; a sister, Ruth Crothers of Urbana, Ill.; a nephew; 12 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild .
Clarence was preceded in death by two wives, Lenore and Joyce; a daughter, Marcia Rauscher; a brother-in-law , Milton Crothers; a daughter-in-law , Bertha Hansen and a grandson.
