FARGO, N.D. – Sam Ojuri scored on a 3-yard run with 2:39 remaining to give North Dakota State a 10-point lead and the top-ranked Bison held off No. 20/16 South Dakota State, 20-17, to clinch at least a share of the Missouri Valley Football Conference title on Saturday afternoon at Gate City Bank Field in the Fargodome.
The defending national champion Bison (9-1, 6-1 MVFC) took advantage of a pair of Jackrabbit (7-2, 5-2) penalties on the 50-yard drive, which lasted 11 plays and ate up 5:15 of game time.
On fourth-and-3 at the SDSU 5-yard line, NDSU sent out the field goal unit when the Jackrabbits were flagged for a substitution infraction. That moved the ball inside the 3 and set the Bison up with fourth-and-less than 1; and the offense retook the field. Ojuri scampered into the end zone untouched on the next play from scrimmage and Adam Keller added the point-after touchdown kick to make it 20-10 with 2:39 to go.
