BROOKINGS – It appears likely that Brookings Municipal Utilities is going to be getting into the data storage and management business.
BMU General Manager Steve Meyer told council Tuesday that the city utilities’ telecom unit, Swiftel Communications, has been exploring options along those lines.
“Data is becoming a bigger and bigger part of all our lives,” Meyer said, “and it’s becoming more and more important to businesses, as the Computer Age has made it easier to produce data. We’ve become more reliant on it, and technology has also made it easier to transport data.”
