Florence (Foster) Hawley, 84, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center.
Funeral services are at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the United Church of Christ in Estelline. Burial is in Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Geise Funeral Home in Estelline.
Florence (Foster) Hawley was born March 22, 1928, to Charles and Mary (Best) Foster. She attended rural grade school in Preston Township and graduated from Estelline High School in 1946. Florence lived and worked in Brookings for one year after graduation. She married Dale Hawley on Oct. 5, 1947. They farmed around the Estelline and Bruce area until retiring in 1980. Dale and Florence were also foster parents for 19 years. Florence worked at the Estelline Nursing and Care Center for 15 1/2 years.
She was a longtime member of the United Church of Christ in Estelline.
She is survived by three grandsons; a daughter-in-law, Debra (Curtis) Peterson; a sister, Charolette Krueger of Cedar Falls, Iowa; foster sons, Terry (Joyce) Gortmaker and their family and Eldon (Kim) Clarke and their family; many nieces and nephews; and a host of many wonderful friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale; a son, David; and a brother-in-law, Dwight Krueger.
