Change in service brings Munsterman change in career

BROOKINGS – Most people called to public service admit that they “got more than they gave.” It’s a broadening, and some would say humbling, experience, and most of those who run for office and serve as legislators or county commissioners say they wouldn’t trade their time in office for anything.

For former Brookings mayor and city councilor Dr. Scott Munsterman, a race for governor and his subsequent election to the state Legislature literally changed his life. It wasn’t an “Aha! Moment” in Pierre that caused him to change his conservative political views or modify his position on issues – his service resulted in him actually changing careers.

“The governor’s race gave me a sense of direction,” Munsterman says today as he stumps for re-election to the House. “I discovered I really wanted to get involved in public policy.”
