Fliers sweep team titles at Lake Central Conference meet

VOLGA – Flandreau swept the team titles at the Lake Central Conference cross-country meet on Monday afternoon at Meadow Creek Golf Course.

The Fliers won the boys title with 10 team points. Deuel was second at 24 and De Smet took third with 28 points.

For the girls, Flandreau totaled 12 points to edge host Sioux Valley (14). Deuel was third at 29.

Individually, Flandreau’s Guy Zephier won the 5K boys’ race with a time of 17 minutes, 55.2 seconds. Clark/Willow Lake’s Mitch Prouty was second in 18:22.3.

Flandreau’s Anthony Julson (18:34.9), Sioux Valley’s John Jacobson (18:35.2) and Deuel’s Jacob Brandt (18:38.6) were third through fifth, respectively.

Dylan Erickson finished sixth in 18:56.8 to complete the Fliers’ winning team score.

In the girls’ race, the Cyclones’ Mikayla Prouty kept on rolling with her seventh win in eight races this season. The sophomore posted a time of 15:51.4 on the 4,000-meter course. She has not lost to a Class A or Class B runner this season.

Flandreau’s Marilyn Allen was second in 16:43.3.

Deuel’s Mackenzie Mack (16:59.3) was third, followed by a pair of Cossacks, Alyssa Haaland (17:02.9) and Brinn Jensen (17:05.5), in fourth and fifth, respectively.

Also scoring for the Fliers, Caitlyn Drietz was sixth in 17:09 and Kathy Parsley took 10th in 17:49.4.

Brooke Jensen rounded out Sioux Valley’s team score, taking 12th with a time of 18:05.1.

The Big East Conference meet is on Thursday at 4 p.m. in Volga.
