Chief Jeff Miller (back to camera) and Sgt. Joel Perry were up before daybreak today as they and other Brookings Police Department officers unloaded dozens of bikes they’ve been accumulating over the past year. Assisting the police were city Street Department staffers (at back of picture).
The occasion – at the Swiftel Center parking lot – was the annual City/County/School District Auction where the three government bodies sold everything from tires to trucks to table saws and toasters. The surplus property sale began at 10 a.m. with a bike auction, followed by a noon sale of vehicles and large equipment and a real estate auction at 1.
The sale was the largest in recent years, since city and county “surplused” a large amount of office equipment in the move to the new joint city-county government center. The items for sale, however, included exam tables from the hospital, as well as computers, cameras and lawn and garden equipment.
