• Absentee location changed to new government center

BROOKINGS – Registered voters can begin to cast their ballots in this fall’s general election as early as Friday.

And for those who still need to register to vote, the deadline is Monday, Oct. 22.

According to Stacy Steffensen, deputy finance officer for Brookings County, absentee voting for the Nov. 6 election will begin Friday at a new location: The Brookings City & County Government Center, 520 Third St. Voting will take place in Suite 103, the conference room between the Finance Office and the Equalization Office on the first floor of the new building.

Hours will be weekdays from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. beginning Friday and continuing through Monday, Nov. 5.

On Election Day, Nov. 6, the government center polling place will be open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

As noted earlier, the county’s Precinct 3 polling place has also changed. Because the former City Hall building is now a law enforcement center for the Brookings Police Department, the new voting location will be at the Brookings Activity Center, 320 Fifth Ave. Registered voters in the City of Brookings who live south of Sixth Street, west of Medary Avenue and north of Eighth Street South will now vote at the Activity Center.
