Steel supports for the walls and roof are already in place at the city’s East Fire Station addition, and these workers from Gerald Johnson Plastering and Drywall of Sioux Falls took advantage of Tuesday’s sunny weather to begin work on the fascia supports for the building’s roofline. Sunkota Construction of Sioux Falls is general contractor for the $753,000 project, which will add 5,000 square feet to the East Fire Station on Sixth Street, directly west of McCrory Gardens. The fire hall addition will replace the department’s current training and meeting facility. Located on the north side of the station, the addition will house a training center, several large meeting rooms, offices, storage space and a kitchen. The project manager said Tuesday the work is on schedule for a spring move-in; crews are currently waiting for the architect’s choice to begin the facility’s brick exterior walls.
